HIMSS - Reported on Friday's meeting

* Discussed different means of providing clinical information systems exposure to students (at the graduate level and lower).
* Provide mentoring through residency
* Look at possibility of setting up hospital information systems in colleges for training to begin there, etc.

Discussed goals for the group

* Political involvement - advisory only
* Whether to set up financial structure for this group now - Decision was made not to at this time - will look at support from local chapters, vendors, etc. for now. Kathryn Mock at Kathryn.Mock@Masverde.com will research setting up "not for profit org"
* In the interim John will research using CE at MUSC
* Kathryn Mock volunteered to set up website: will research SCINN.org.

*Revisions/refinement of John's draft Purpose/ Mission/ Vision/ Objectives paper (committee: John Welton, Cindy Malphrus at cmalphrus@lexhealth.org, Kathy Williams, Brenda Herrmann) Will post on website for review

* Search for Sue Newbold online to look for link to our new site
* Discussed the feasibility of having a WINI (Weekend Immersion in Nursing Informatics), (designed to review for the ANCC's NI certification exam) in the fall of 2002 - decided to wait until 2003,or we may do a Regional Conference -
*Committee set up to research this (Sherry Church, Mary Linder, John Welton, Kathy Williams)

* American Medical Informatics Association - Nursing Informatics Working Group (AMIA-NIWG) is Nursing Informatics' professional organization. It is a sub-group of International Medical Informatics Association, and the NIWG for IMIA meets every 3 years. The last meeting was in New Zealand. John Welton and Kathy Williams went. The next one will be in 2003 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

ANYONE WHO WISHES TO SERVE ON ANY OF THESE COMMITTEES MAY CONTACT ONE OF THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS TO EXPRESS THEIR INTEREST, BUT WE WOULD LIKE TO KEEP THE COMMITTEES FAIRLY SMALL TO FACILITATE FORWARD MOVEMENT.

We will use the website to post all information for review by the entire group.
